    The Locke Report!! Edition Quatre.

Well it’s been a while since my last update, and in that time amongst other things, I managed to get my first win!! It was an Elite 2 race (Elite 1 is Pro.), and also Round 1 of the Gitane Trophy series, which makes me the series leader. I was in a move with my Russian team-mate, and Kieran Page, which stayed away from the off, and it came down to a 3 up sprint. Just when it counted, I managed to forget all the conventional “sprinting wisdom” and lead the thing out, but I kept knocking it down the sprockets and no one came around me – which was nice. It was good to get a result after the troubled start to the season, and it boosts your confidence too!! However 3 days later I was ill again!! This was probably due to the fact that I had raced in freezing rain and then had to hang around in a cold sports hall for ages to take a dope test. Anyway it meant I missed the weekend’s racing, and a good few days training, but at least I got to watch the Liege-Bastogne-Liege!! My strength has now returned and my morale too, mainly thanks to watching the motivation restoring films – Rocky 2 – kindly supplied by Kieran Page from his extensive DVD library!! He seems to have everything ranging from classic Indiana Jones, to the timeless masterpiece that is Highlander 1!! Really good form is a way off because of the setbacks I've had, but I hope to peak for the Elite Nationals in June. Actually I have no choice considering the competition and the 220 km distance!! Before then I have plenty of good races though, and a big internationally ranked stage race which should be hard. Apparently it has loads of climbing and a hilly TT, so I am looking forward to it. At the moment, its experience I am lacking, so I need all the racing I can get. As an ex-mountain biker – going from one season in the South West, to racing top amateurs, and guys who were pro last season, is often quite hard to say the least. Of course that is why I am here – to learn – and when I can bring everything together, I am sure more success will come. Besides cycling, I have been adapting to French life well. ‘Les Anglais’ is now a regular participant in the national sport of driving like a Frenchman!! It’s easy to play – you just disregard all other road users and park as badly as you can!! Of course it helps if you are driving a team car that – if scratched – you won’t start crying!! One element of French life I can’t get used to though is the music. It’s the start of the slippery slope that descends to Euro-Pop!! It’s quite amusing watching the game shows here, because without fail, at least a few times per show they’ll have the whole audience singing and clapping along to something. They are always enthusiastic about it and give everything – amazing!! Right, it’s stopped raining now, I better go and watch ‘The Italian Job’ – uh ……. I mean go training!! More from the land of cycling next time, Jon.

100% natural ingredients, specifically formulated for synthetic inserts (also useful for real chamois). It actually prolongs the insert’s life while it reduces friction, increases coolness, and prevents bacterial and fungal infections. Most important is that the ASSOS chamois creme washes out with each washing. Put a thin layer on after washing and before you ride. An absolute must for total comfort in the saddle ! Professional - recommendation: After shaving your legs, use ASSOS Chamois Creme as a lotion. You will be amazed.
