    The Locke Report!! Edition Six.

Well, back to the drawing board again, now that my first year in France has come and gone. It's now time-after a month of R and R-to start preparing for the next one, but with the knowledge gained from this season. Basically this will involve a slower start so I don't end up burned out by September! I reckon my slightly over trained state at the start of the year was the reason I kept getting ill-anyway, mistakes are there to be learned from, and so I will be doing it differently this time. The highlight of my season was representing Great Britain at the World Championships in Italy (my last race of the year). The event was amazing, unlike my form, which deserted me in the weeks prior-the long season had truly taken its toll. It was disappointing as I had been working hard for it, but at least I got on Eurosport, which I guess is the main thing! Seriously though, just getting selected for the Worlds squad in my first dedicated season was great, and I intend to ride in a GB jersey next year too. Now that I am away from the glare of the glitz and glamour that is amateur racing, I can concentrate on more important things like returning to reality, and losing my 'French' habits. These range from trivial things like remembering what side of the road to drive on, to major difficulties such as going cold turkey on fresh croissants and coffee! I've also been trying to adapt back to regular TV and music, realising that there is life after French rap and Yoghurt adverts! Back to cycling, and I have been granted Dave Rayner Fund money for next year. This will be an enormous help during the season, but will also allow me to focus 100% on training and recovery this winter. Last winter I was heaving boxes around at night in order to support my filthy racing habit. When I return to France in the spring, it will be to CC Etupes based near Switzerland. This was Yanto Barkers team this year, and is ranked the Numero Uno Elite 2 club over there. UV Aube that I rode for this year was a great team, but I figured that with an offer from Etupes, moving would be another step in the right direction. Right now I'm just enjoying cycling, catching up with friends, looking forward to riding the track at Newport, and anticipating dishing out/receiving some pain on the 'training' club runs. I also have prize money to chase up, music to download, deals to wheel, and the MDCC annual dinner to attend. Of course, being the hardened, elite athlete that I am, I can't be tempted by nonsense like delicious desserts-especially not ones with cream on-oh no-not with my body being a temple and all. Anyway, have a good off-season, and I will write again in the New Year, by which time I will have hopefully re-found my cycling legs, and resemble some form of a lean, mean, er-cycling machine. Jon.
