The Oxenham Arms is a unique inn with romantic associations. Situated in rural Devon, the Oxenham Arms offers the opportunity to participate in events such as walking, horse riding, fishing, golf and shooting.

WALKING

 The Oxenham Arms provides a centre for holidays at all times of the year. You can explore Dartmoor as the inn nestles at the base of the celebrated Cawsand Beacon and there are magnificent walks in the immediate vicinity and all over Dartmoor. If you would like someone to act as a Guide and point out places of interest along the way this can be arranged for you. Our Guide is fully qualified to lead groups on the moor, in any condition, and in First Aid in the Outdoors. GOLF

FISHING
Hayrish Farm enjoys ownership of 3¼ miles of the River Taw, 1¼ miles run through the home farm at Hayrish, which is mainly wild brown trout fishing, with a further 2 miles of main river at Umberleigh, which is historically called 'The Rising Sun Water'.

The last recorded catch from the river was 60 salmon, 123 sea trout and a selection of brown trout, the heaviest salmon being 19lbs. Rods are either booked on a seasonal basis or day ticket.

There are also 5 stunning course lakes set in 63 acres of gorgeous Devon countryside to enjoy not too far away.

HORSE RIDING
Good horse riding facilities are in the vicinity. All our sports facilities can be arranged as a package through the hotel if you so wish.

SHOOTING

Hayrish also provides game shooting at two locations on the estate. Firstly Hayrish where we offer ten two hundred bird days of mixed partridge, pheasant and duck shooting, and secondly at Dowland, which is a woodland shoot where we offer fiftenn one hundred bird days of partridge, pheasant and duck.

Weekends are arranged for parties who shoot Dowland on Friday and Hayrish on Saturday. Guests would normally join us on a Thursday night and leave on a Sunday morning.

The Hayrish facilities for parties up to 16, which would be eight shooting guests, plus partners. Clay pigeon shooting is also available with instruction if required. please state requirements when booking.

Simulated game shooting has become popular among those who enjoy the camaraderie and thrill of a day's game shooting, but perhaps do not wish to shoot live game, or wish to hone their skills prior to the commencement of the shoot season. Simulated game parties, can be arranged at Hayrish and Dowland.

Please note: Game shooting parties can be arranged for a minimum of eight guns. Simulated shooting minimum of eight guns, maximum of sixteen guns.

OTHER EVENTS
Throughout the year there are specialised events in the area such as Open Gardens, Folk Festival, Pram Race, Carnival, Firework Show, and the famous Dartmoor Ten Tors which is organised by the Army.
